Some detailed analysis of the 2006 census results concerning religious affiliation in Melbourne -

Melbourne has a lower proportion of people identifying as 'Christian' than the national average - 59% compared with almost 64% - and this proportion appears to be shrinking rapidly.  Hopefully the figure will dip below 50% within the next decade.

13% 'declared atheists' is also a pleasing sign.  Add this figure to all the undeclared atheists out there and you're probably looking at something around one-quarter of Melbourne's population.
