In case some of you were wondering why comedian Bill Muehlenberg has gone very quiet this past week, it's because he's been attending the Summit Australia conference in Melbourne.

This annual conference is led by David Noebel from Summit Ministries USA and the administration seems to done by Saltshakers.

According to the conference brochure, the conference will:
"explore the six dominant worldviews that are competing for the hearts and minds of our generation:
  • Christianity
  • Postmodernism
  • Islam
  • Secular Humanism
  • Cosmic Humanism (the New Age and Eastern Religions)
  • Marxism (Communism)"

Bet you didn't know life was that simple eh? Pick one of those six boxes and all your thinking is done for you. Mind you, the type of Christianity promoted by this forum is somewhat removed from the mainstream.

The list of Australian speakers starkly demonstrates how limited the leadership of the reconstructionist/biblical worldview movement is in Australia.

The speaker list is:
Dr. David Mitchell
Bill Muehlenberg (Culturewatch)
Peter & Jenny Stokes (Saltshakers)
Melinda Tankard-Reist (anti-abortion campaigner)
Rev. Mark Durie (Anglican vicar specialising in Islam)
Rev. Dr. Stuart Robinson (Crossway Baptist Church)
Dr. Graham McLennan
Colin Bunnett
Dr. Augusto Zimmerman (creationist and lawyer)
Dr. Tas Walker (Creation Ministries International)
Andrew Kulikovsky (creationist/biblical economist)

Most of those names would be well-known to users of this forum and the list shows that reconstructionist thought in Australia is (thankfully) limited to a handful of individuals and small self-appointed groups, and has been that way for many years. This American-dominated movement is certainly struggling to find a firm foothold in Australia.

See the Articles page on this site for additional information on Reconstructionism in Australia.

I'm sure conference participants will get an objective presentation on items 2 through 6.

Still, they've missed the boat on Buddhism. The last census showed there were more Buddhists than Muslims in Australia, and they're growing faster than any other belief group.

They would include that under Cosmic Humanism. The worldview stuff is not really just about religion. You have to buy into full "Biblical" right-wing politics as well. That's why Marxism is seen as a competing worldview (are there any Marxists left in the world?) while Capitalism isn't.
